What is inside the six parts?

Each part has its own recording. The scenario below is what you see before the audio starts, followed by the opening line of the conversation or talk.

1. Part 1 · Listening to Problem Solving

   Timing a Crown Around Insurance

   You will hear a conversation between a man and a woman. The conversation takes place at a Ontario. It opens: "Before I book anything, can you tell me what I'd actually be paying for the crown?"

2. Part 2 · Listening to a Daily Life Conversation

   Sitting Together on a Flight

   You will hear a conversation. Two friends decide whether to pay to choose seats on a flight they are taking together. It opens: "Kenji, did you get the email about choosing seats for Halifax? They want twenty-eight dollars each."

3. Part 3 · Listening for Information

   Signing for a Damaged Delivery

   You will hear a conversation about a damaged delivery at the dock. It opens: "Before you sign for that delivery, look at the bottom corner of the carton. See how it's crushed?"

4. Part 4 · Listening to a News Item

   Redrawn Snow Clearing Routes

   You will hear a news item. It opens: "Kamloops has redrawn its winter snow clearing routes after residents kept their own records of when the ploughs arrived. The new map…"

5. Part 5 · Listening to a Discussion

   Planning a Volleyball Tournament

   You will watch a discussion among three people. They are in a the bleachers of a school gym after practice. It opens: "Before everyone leaves, we need to settle the tournament. Six teams have said yes, and they all want a date and a…"

6. Part 6 · Listening for Viewpoints

   Volunteer Tasks or Fixed Shifts

   You will hear a report about an animal shelter considering whether volunteers should commit to specific tasks instead of fixed shifts. It opens: "A volunteer finishes the bedding, checks the cupboard and leaves after forty minutes. Has she done enough? At Maple Reach Animal Shelter…"
