What is in the CELPIP Listening section?
Listening is the first section you face on both CELPIP General and CELPIP General LS, and it is identical in the two tests. You work through six parts with 38 multiple choice questions in total. Every recording plays once, the questions are read aloud, and you answer on screen before the test moves you forward.
The recordings feature everyday Canadian situations: workplace conversations, community news, phone calls and group discussions. You are not tested on background knowledge. Every answer sits in the audio, which is why regular practice with realistic tests is the fastest way to raise your level.
Part 1
Listening to Problem Solving
A conversation in three short parts where a problem comes up and gets resolved. You answer questions after each part.
Part 2
Listening to a Daily Life Conversation
One everyday dialogue between two speakers. Questions test meaning, decisions and what the speakers imply.
Part 3
Listening for Information
A longer conversation where one speaker draws detailed information from the other. Questions focus on the specifics.
Part 4
Listening to a News Item
A short news report read by a single newsreader. Questions cover the event, the people involved and the details.
Part 5
Listening to a Discussion
Three speakers discuss one issue, and this is the only part with video on the real exam. Questions track each viewpoint and the outcome.
Part 6
Listening for Viewpoints
One presenter lays out several opinions on an issue. Questions ask about the central decision and each point of view.
Timing
The official section takes 47 to 55 minutes including instructions, and each full-length mock here runs about the same.
Scoring
All 38 questions carry equal weight. Your raw score converts to a CELPIP level, with Level 12 the highest possible result.

CELPIP General and CELPIP LS share an identical Listening section, so every test here counts for both.

Yes. Both tests use exactly the same Listening section, with the same six parts, the same question types and the same timing. CELPIP General adds Reading and Writing, while CELPIP General LS covers Listening and Speaking only. Every test on this page prepares you for either version.
There are six parts with 38 questions in total. Part 1 has 8 questions, Part 2 has 5, Part 3 has 6, Part 4 has 5, Part 5 has 8 and Part 6 has 6. Every question is multiple choice.
Yes. On the official exam each recording plays a single time and you cannot pause or replay it. Our mock tests follow the same rule, and the questions are recited aloud after each recording just like on test day.
