Speaking is one of the four sections in CELPIP General and one of the two in CELPIP LS. You complete eight tasks in about 15–20 minutes, each with its own short preparation time followed by a fixed recording time. Everything you need is on screen — there is nothing extra to memorise.
The tasks are built on everyday Canadian situations — giving advice, describing a picture, comparing choices, handling an awkward moment. You are scored on how clearly you communicate and organise your ideas, the range of your vocabulary and how easy you are to follow. Regular practice with realistic prompts and honest feedback is the fastest way to raise your level.
Task 1
You read a short situation about someone you know and give them practical advice, explaining your reasons clearly in the time you are given.
Task 2
You describe a personal experience from your own life — what happened, how you felt and why it mattered — telling the story in a clear, connected way.
Task 3
You are shown a picture and describe exactly what you see — the people, objects, actions and setting — in enough detail for a listener to picture it.
Task 4
Using the same scene, you predict what is likely to happen next, giving reasonable guesses and explaining what makes you think so.
Task 5
You choose one of several options, then persuade someone to agree with your choice over the one they prefer, weighing the pros and cons.
Task 6
You are placed in an awkward, real-life situation and must choose one of two responses, then speak tactfully to resolve it.
Task 7
You are asked a question on a familiar topic and share your opinion, supporting it with clear reasons and relevant examples.
Task 8
You describe an unusual object or scene to someone who cannot see it — its colours, shape and strange parts — clearly enough for them to understand.
The section runs about 15–20 minutes. Every task gives you a short preparation time and then a fixed recording time, and each mock here uses the same on-screen timers.
Responses are judged on four traits — Content & Coherence, Vocabulary, Listenability and Task Fulfillment — scored automatically and mapped to a CELPIP level, up to 12.
Speaking appears on both CELPIP General and CELPIP LS, with the same eight tasks. These tests prepare you for either version of the exam.
You answer by speaking, not typing. Preparing and then speaking to the timer — out loud, in a quiet space — builds the fluency that pays off on test day.
Every task follows the same authentic flow, then your answer is scored automatically against the CELPIP Speaking criteria.
Read the task — and, for picture tasks, study the prompt image.
A short countdown lets you plan your answer before you speak.
Recording starts automatically; a timer tracks your speaking time.

Each response is scored on the four CELPIP Speaking dimensions, the same criteria a human rater uses.
How complete, relevant and well-organised your ideas are.
The range and precision of the words you choose.
How clear, fluent and easy to follow your speech is.
How fully you answer every part of what the task asks.
As soon as you finish, your full report is ready — no waiting for a tutor.

Everything test takers usually ask about the CELPIP Speaking section and how these practice tests work.
Yes. Speaking appears on both CELPIP General and CELPIP General LS, and the task types are the same on each. Every test on this page follows the official eight-task Speaking format, so it prepares you for either version.
Eight scored tasks, from Giving Advice through Describing an Unusual Situation. A short, unscored practice task runs first to warm you up. Each test here includes all eight tasks in the official order, plus that practice task.
About 15 to 20 minutes in total. Every task gives you a short preparation time followed by a fixed recording time — for example 30 seconds to prepare and 60 to 90 seconds to speak — and each mock here uses the same on-screen timers.
Each task shows the question (and a picture for the image tasks), then a preparation countdown so you can plan your answer. When prep ends, recording begins automatically and a timer counts your speaking time. On the real test the screen moves on by itself when time runs out, and you cannot return to an earlier task — the mocks work the same way.
Your response is scored on the four CELPIP Speaking dimensions: Content & Coherence, Vocabulary, Listenability and Task Fulfillment. These combine into an estimated CELPIP level, up to 12, with written feedback so you know what to improve.
Yes. Tasks 3, 4, 5 and 8 use picture prompts, exactly as on the official test — describing a scene, predicting what happens next, comparing options and describing an unusual situation. The images here match the real exam experience.
Test 1 is free, so start there to learn the format and the timing. After that, use the filters to choose a difficulty and work through a mix of tests. Practising the full flow — prep, then speaking to time — is the best way to build confidence for test day.
You speak your answers aloud during each recording window, just like the real test. Practising out loud under the timer is what builds fluency, so use a quiet space and a working microphone when you take a test.
