Recent runoff loosened several boards and reserve staff need time to repair them. As a result, we cannot reach East Lookout safely by the route on our map. I first spoke with a ranger and checked the posted route notices. The Lakeside Loop is open and reaches a smaller viewpoint before sunrise.

I also checked the earlier arrangements before deciding which alternative might cause the least disruption. One detail to keep in mind is that you already arranged to borrow trekking poles and pick me up near Oak Street. My preferred solution is using the Lakeside Loop and meeting twenty minutes earlier. That would work best because the route is open and the extra time should still get us to the viewpoint before sunrise.
