I wanted to sort out the grocery delivery for our cottage weekend at Pineglass Lake with you. We planned to arrive at eight on Friday and find the order in the covered porch box. I was looking forward to it, and everything seemed settled until this week. The reason I’m asking now is that the delivery service now requires someone to receive the refrigerated items in person. The cottage owner changed the gate code and the driver cannot enter an unattended property.

As a result, our food order will be returned if nobody is there during the delivery window. I first asked the service whether the delivery window could be narrowed. The driver can arrive between six thirty and seven if one of us confirms by phone. I went back through the original information to make sure the difficulty was not based on a misunderstanding. One detail to keep in mind is that you finish work closer to the cottage while I am collecting the rental canoe.

My preferred solution is having you arrive first and meet the driver before seven. That would work best because it protects the chilled food and lets me keep the canoe pickup appointment. This seems more practical than rebuilding the arrangement from the beginning. If that works for you, I can update everything else as soon as you reply. Another possibility is moving the order to Saturday morning.

The difficulty with that option is that we would have no breakfast ingredients and the store adds a second delivery charge. I thought about dropping the plan completely, but that would create more trouble than it solves. I’d rather use one of the practical alternatives that is already available. The practical detail I have not resolved is that the new gate code should not be shared in the driver instructions. Please tell me what you think we should do about that part of the plan.
