Reading Test 16 · Part 1 (Moving Day Elevator Booking)Pro

Subject: Earlier Start for Sunday’s Move

Hi Theo,

I wanted to sort out the apartment move you offered to help with on Sunday with you. We booked the service elevator from ten until two and planned to load the truck at ten thirty. I was looking forward to it, and everything seemed settled until this week. The reason I’m asking now is that the building shortened our elevator booking to end at noon. Maintenance needs the elevator for a cable inspection that afternoon. As a result, we have only two hours to move the largest furniture downstairs.

I first asked the truck company whether the vehicle could arrive earlier. The driver can come at eight thirty without changing the rental rate. I also checked the information we exchanged earlier so I would not overlook an existing condition. One detail to keep in mind is that you are bringing the furniture blankets and the wheeled dolly. My preferred solution is meeting at eight and loading large pieces as soon as the truck arrives.

That would work best because we can finish elevator-dependent items before maintenance takes control. I do not want to change more of the arrangement than the current problem requires. If that works for you, I can update everything else as soon as you reply. Another possibility is keeping the ten thirty start and carrying smaller boxes by the stairs later. The difficulty with that option is that the sofa and bookcase cannot safely use the stairs.

I thought about dropping the plan completely, but that would create more trouble than it solves. I’d rather use one of the practical alternatives that is already available. The practical detail I have not resolved is that the loading permit begins at eight thirty and expires at noon. Please tell me what you think we should do about that part of the plan.

I kept the records about the apartment move you offered to help with on Sunday together for this review. No other related plan needs to change while this matter is reviewed. A written reply about meeting at eight and loading large pieces as soon as the truck arrives would prevent confusion. Thank you for considering the timing and practical effects of this request.

I need your answer by Friday night. The building manager needs the final crew arrival time for security. What I’m hoping is that you can come at eight with the dolly and help move furniture first. Once I hear from you, I will confirm the truck time and label the elevator loads.

Hi Zara,

Thanks for laying out what changed and what you have already tried. I understand that . The first plan made sense, but this new issue clearly needs a different answer.

I can confirm that . That choice is suitable because . I’ve updated my notes so we won’t treat the earlier plan as final.

Because you are bringing the furniture blankets and the wheeled dolly, . I will send the revised instructions after I finish the update today. The other option can remain available if something changes before the deadline.

Please reply by so I know you accept the revised plan. After your confirmation, I will send the loading order and door-entry code. Thanks for giving me enough detail to sort this out without another long exchange.

See you soon,

Theo
