Reading Test 34 · Part 1 (New Space for Prop Painting)Pro

Subject: Prop Workshop Location Change

Hi Julian,

I wanted to check in about Saturday’s theatre workshop for painting the market-scene props. We planned to work in the basement scenery room from ten until three. Everything appeared to be settled, and I had planned around the original arrangement. I am contacting you now because the scenery room is unavailable during a ventilation test. The building supervisor scheduled the test after noticing a weak exhaust fan.

As a result, we cannot safely use paint or adhesive in the basement. I first asked the stage manager whether the loading-bay studio is free. The studio is available until two and has movable worktables near an exterior door. I went back through the original information to make sure the difficulty was not based on a misunderstanding. One detail to keep in mind is that you are bringing the labelled paint samples and the volunteer sign-in sheet.

My preferred solution is using the loading-bay studio and starting at nine thirty. That would work best because we gain ventilation and enough time to finish before the studio closes. This seems more practical than rebuilding the arrangement from the beginning. If this is acceptable, I can update the remaining details as soon as I receive your reply. Another possibility is postponing the workshop until the basement fan is replaced.

The difficulty with that option is that the replacement date is unknown and the first performance is approaching. I considered cancelling the arrangement entirely, but that would create unnecessary work for everyone involved. For that reason, I would rather use one of the practical alternatives already available. The practical detail I have not resolved is that the loading bay has no sink for washing brushes. Please let me know how that part should be handled if the preferred plan is approved.

I kept the records about Saturday’s theatre workshop for painting the market-scene props together for this review. No other related plan needs to change while this matter is reviewed. A written reply about using the loading-bay studio and starting at nine thirty would prevent confusion. Thank you for considering the timing and practical effects of this request.

I need your answer by Friday morning. I need time to arrange sealed water containers and disposal buckets. Most importantly, I am asking you to approve the loading-bay setup and remind volunteers about the earlier start. Once I hear from you, I will prepare rinse containers and move the unpainted props upstairs.

Thanks,

Anika

Hi Anika,

Thanks for explaining what changed and what you have already tried. I understand that . The original arrangement was reasonable, but the new complication calls for a different plan.

I can confirm that . That choice is suitable because . I have updated the records so the earlier arrangement is no longer treated as final.

Because you are bringing the labelled paint samples and the volunteer sign-in sheet, . I will send the revised instructions after I finish the update today. The other option can remain available if something changes before the deadline.

Please reply by so I know you accept the revised plan. After your confirmation, I will send the access route and paint-handling plan. Thank you for providing enough detail to resolve this without another round of questions.

Best,

Julian
